Ecuador’s beaches have been the beautiful setting chosen by Maura Abad to produce her fourth short film: “De Cabeza”, a romantic drama shot in Spanish with English subtitles, which adds to the prolific career of the U.S. -based writer and producer.
The avant premiere of “De Cabeza” will take place on October 3, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., at 1015 South Highway 30, Blair, Nebraska 68008. This film was co-written by Maura alongside director Alberto Pablo Rivera, who also stars in the short film, in a production by Magenta Productions in collaboration with New Rock Cinema. Alberto shares the lead role with actress Camille Valencia.
“I don’t want to give too much away, because I want it to be a surprise for all our fans and readers, but in ‘De Cabeza’ we’ve created a sweet, romantic story full of funny moments that we hope people will really enjoy. One of the things I’ve always wanted to do is highlight the beauty of Ecuador, its beaches and its people, and in this new short film, the Ecuadorian coast is the perfect setting for a story that we hope will be unforgettable,” Maura said about this short film, the fourth in her career as a producer and creator.
The official release of the film will take place on Sunday, October 11, 2026. This marks the fourth collaboration between Magenta Productions, Maura Abad’s production company, and New Rock Cinema, Alberto Rivera’s firm. Previous works by this successful duo: “Memento Vivere”, “From Out There” (the first short film created using artificial intelligence in Ecuador), and “Pure Love” (a beautiful cartoon film), have earned awards and recognition at more than a dozen film festivals around the world, in countries such as Japan, France, and Germany.
Until now, Maura’s work has been characterized by a profound and reflective vision of life, humanity’s role and responsibility in the world, and the emotional impact of pets on our lives. This is the first time her work has shifted in tone, focusing on humor, beauty, and romance as elements to tell a story that will undoubtedly be endearing and will remain in the audience’s memory for a long time.
