Alberto Pablo Rivera, director of Maura Abad’s debut work, is included on the select list of the best directors at this year’s Paris film festival, further proof of this short film’s excellence.

The WSXA International Film Festival, in its WSXA Paris 2026 edition, has published the nominees for the Best Director Award on its website, including Alberto Pablo Rivera, who directed and co-wrote the short film “Memento Vivere”, Maura Abad’s debut as a writer and producer. Maura is also author of the poetry collection “42 Poems, It’s All About The Context”, which inspired this film.
This nomination, the 15th for “Memento Vivere”, reflects the impact this work has had; over the course of ten minutes, it immerses the viewer in the protagonist’s desire to reconnect with her deceased father, journeying through grief to find acceptance, resolution, and the will to move forward.
The simple threads that drive the story have proven utterly captivating to more than a dozen festivals and juries around the world, which have nominated, selected, and awarded this film, placing it in competition alongside renowned writers, actors, and directors.
The visual richness of “Memento Vivere”, the impeccable performances, and a script with few words but great power have transcended the borders of Ecuador, the country where it was filmed, to become part of the cinematic landscape of the world’s major capitals.
Alberto Pablo Rivera, director of New Rock Cinema, has worked on other productions by Maura, capturing with great sensitivity the message and stories that the writer and producer wishes to convey.
WSXA Paris 2026
The WSXA Paris 2026 is part of the WSXA International Film Festival awards, an annual event with four main editions, whose goal is to provide a space for emerging directors and artists from around the world to showcase their talent to juries recognized in the film industry, disseminating information and works of modern visual art on a unified platform that screens, selects, and awards feature films, documentaries, short films, commercials, music videos, animations, television series, and new media.
The WSXA Awards are held in cities such as Barcelona, Amsterdam, and Paris; it is the Paris edition that has nominated Alberto for Best Director, an honor for which he is competing alongside seven other directors from various parts of the world. The winners from each of the WSXA editions will gather in Berlin this coming November 2026 for the Awards Ceremony.
