The short film shot in Ecuador and produced by Maura Abad is coming to Sweden to tell a poignant story that has already been recognized at several international film festivals.

The 2026 Sweden Film Award is the latest event where Memento Vivere will participate, carrying its universal message of acceptance of pain, overcoming adversity, and redemption. Directed by Alberto Rivera and Cinema Rock and produced by Maura Abad, this 11-minute film has already been screened at several festivals around the world, earning awards, honorable mentions, and positive reviews from film critics.
The Sweden Film Awards is Sweden’s first international film competition, whose goal is to provide filmmakers with an authoritative platform to present their work, evaluated by film experts, and to gain visibility and recognition within the European film community.
A distinctive feature of this event is that the screening and awarding of films and film material from around the world takes place monthly, which requires a significant investment of resources, effort, and talent to carry out this selection and awards process every month.
The monthly winning films in the main categories are screened publicly and will compete during the annual Sweden Film Awards festival. They are also published on the festival’s website, thereby expanding the reach of the emerging artists participating in the event.
*Memento Vivere* is inspired by Maura Abad’s first book of poetry, *42 Poems, It’s All About the Context*, which the author conceived as a way to cope with the loss and grief following her father’s death. Maura co-wrote the film’s screenplay with Alberto Rivera, the Ecuadorian filmmaker who was able to translate Maura’s creative universe into images—a collaboration that has resulted in several short films, such as From Out There and Pure Love.
This latest accolade signifies an even greater commitment for the film’s artists and creators, given the intensity of a story told with few words and masterful performances—a story whose universal message is easy to understand and with which audiences can easily identify.
