- The first short film produced by Maura Abad screens today at 4:00 p.m. as part of Cine ESPOL Fest’s activities.
Today, Friday, October 16, at 4:00 p.m., the short film Memento Vivere, the first work produced by Maura Abad and directed by Ecuadorian filmmaker Alberto Pablo Rivera, will screen. The screening is part of Cine ESPOL Fest, Ecuador’s film festival, where the film is competing in the Docente Premio Víctor Estrada Jara category.
Memento Vivere marked Maura’s debut as a producer and screenwriter and has received awards and accolades at film festivals around the world. Today, it is being presented to the public as part of Cine ESPOL Fest, organized by the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) in Ecuador, whose purpose is to recognize and highlight audiovisual productions created by university and technical institute students and recent graduates. Awards are presented in the following categories: Fiction and Documentary, Screenwriting Competition, and a special Faculty category that gives the Víctor Estrada Jara Award, for which Memento Vivere is competing.
As an official selection, the film is screening today in commercial movie theaters such as Supercines Ceibos, so that audiences can enjoy this work, co-written with the director and filmed entirely in Ecuador. It conveys a profound and moving message about love and loss, with impeccable aesthetics and top-notch performances. It is inspired by Maura Abad’s first book of poetry, 42 Poems, It’s All About the Context, published last year. Memento Vivere was released on international platforms in December of last year and has since traveled through film festivals, events, and screenings, leaving a trail of admiration and recognition in its wake.
“We’ve been to many places, on many stages, and at many award ceremonies, but being here today, in Ecuador, in our city, is incredible. It’s a great honor to have made it this far, for the university community to get to know our work, and it’s further motivation to keep believing in what we do and in Ecuadorian cinema,” -Maura said of today’s screening.
