Art and Artificial Intelligence coexist harmoniously today, with the latter serving as an invaluable resource for expressing the feelings, emotions, reflections, and perspectives of contemporary artists. The short film From out There, produced by writer Maura Abad and directed by filmmaker Alberto Pablo Rivera, will screen at the AI FilmFest Serbia 2026 on July 8, delivering its powerful message about humanity’s ability to change the course of events, a reflective look at our role in the world’s destiny and the frontiers that humanity and science can conquer.
From out There has marked a milestone in Ecuador’s film scene, Alberto’s country of origin and Maura’s adopted home, where she has lived since childhood. This short film was the first to be created using Artificial Intelligence, earning it praises from the press, a very warm reception from the public, and propelling the artistic careers of its creators beyond Ecuador’s borders. “We’re very happy to bring our homegrown production to a country as interesting as Serbia; it’s a testament to our commitment to making quality films, in this case using a resource as versatile as Artificial Intelligence. I believe we’re conveying a very universal message that’s easy to relate to, because it encapsulates a concern as ancient as it is relevant: who we are, why we’re here, and what we can do to improve the world we live in”, said Maura upon learning of this new selection for the second film she has produced.
The AI FilmFest Serbia is an event created by the Balkan country to highlight works that demonstrate creativity and innovation in the use of AI technology, featuring high-quality screenplays, as well as meticulous and striking editing and visual effects, all while conveying a message that truly touches the audience’s emotions. From out There not only meets all these requirements but is also an inspiring and essential work, which caught the attention of the AI FilmFest Serbia jury. The film will be screened today, alongside other international works.
