  • This cultural moment is a special addition to the 22nd URUMAN 2026 Conference, taking place on October 16th in Montevideo, Uruguay, where the short film From Out There will be screened for the audience.

Art and technology meet on an unusual, yet no less impactful, occasion: Maura Abad’s film headlines the Cultural Moment at the upcoming 22nd URUMAN 2026 Conference, taking place on October 16th in Montevideo, Uruguay.

This event is organized by the Uruguayan Society of Maintenance, Asset Management, and Reliability (URUMAN), host of the conference, with the goal of showcasing advances in asset management across the southern region of Latin America. Maura Abad will participate virtually in the event, leading the WIRAM Virtual Panel “The Role of Women in AI and Asset Management,” in her role as Global Director of Women in Reliability and Asset Management. However, to offer attendees a cultural moment, the short film From Out There will be presented, Maura’s second film production, created using Artificial Intelligence (the first of its kind in Ecuador), directed by Alberto Rivera and New Rock Cinema.

From Out There expresses the perfect union between AI and Cinema, an example of how engineering and the arts not only coexist but can come together to create exceptional works that move audiences and open a space for reflection.

Over the course of 15 minutes, Maura will explain how Artificial Intelligence now influences nearly every area of human creativity, including art and film, before the screening begins. Produced and co-written by Maura, From Out There raises several questions about the importance of life and humanity’s role in the current course of things. It’s a piece meant to be watched more than once, prompting us to reconsider things we often take for granted.

“This is a unique occasion, blending two of my most important roles: WIRAM Director and film producer. I’m thrilled that URUMAN chose to include From Out There in their program as the event’s cultural moment, and it’s truly a great honor,” Maura said about the screening of her short film at this important regional event.
